THE VIRTUAL PIPELINE
What is a virtual pipeline?
A virtual pipeline is simply comprised of an LNG storage vessel (or battery of vessels), with a vaporizer system. The vaporizer system converts the liquified natural gas back into a gas so it can be burned as fuel. The burnable fuel gas then flows to our customer’s facility via pipeline.
Why use a virtual pipeline?
Cost savings! Virtual pipelines are a distinct advantage when natural gas pipelines are not an option. If natural gas pipelines are not available, your fossil fuel options are limited to fuel oil, propane, or LNG. Of these three, LNG is by far the most cost-effective choice. Our LNG customers report annual savings of up to 50% in fuel costs
What’s involved in building a virtual pipeline?
The first step is identifying any local ordinances that might affect the system design. Then an engineer will design a system that best fits your company’s needs. Once designed, a project manager will oversee the system build to ensure all design specifications are met.
If you have difficulty finding an engineer or project manager, Frontier LNG will help you find the required expertise. While Frontier LNG is not in the business of constructing virtual pipelines, we are more than happy to assist throughout the design and build process.
Is a virtual pipeline expensive to install?
A virtual pipeline system is quite affordable. Many states, including Pennsylvania, provide funding to assist in the construction of such a system. Most (if not all) of the cost of installing a virtual pipeline system may be covered by state grants and program.
